The Rocks Brewing Company is one of my all time favourite breweries, this may lend in some form to convenience, with their Brewery Bar being only a fifteen minute drive from my house, having a nice selection of big meals and their Beergustations being one of my favourite things to do with my father.
Most of you probably already know this, but the Rocks Brewing Company call their seasonal beers “Conviction” beers. which is where I discovered this IPA, which has become one of my favourite beers to enjoy at basically any time of the year.
Time to get down to business.
The Rocks Conviction IPA is everything you look for in a good West Coast IPA, however it’s got the twist that you always look for in a good beer from the Rocks Brewery. Using what seems to be the Company’s signature hops, the Cascade, the herbal flavour that drinkers of the Hangman Pale Ale recognise is definitely there in the background, but the strong, almost acidic flavour that IPA drinkers will be familiar with is definitely present. In addition, they have added Chinook and Centennial hops, which leave you with a nice tropical undertone as the beer goes down. Quite a nice combination that screams a perfect marriage of Australian Brewers and American styles
The malt flavours of this beer are not as on the tongue as the lovely hoppy sensations that are present throughout the entire experience, though they are definitely present. Overall, the malt palate is solid, however it isn’t the defining feature of the beer.
The 7.2% ABV of the beer makes it nice and smooth going down, and keeps that strong, burn sensation you take note of with these stronger ales. The quote on the side of the can sums it up nicely “This beer is brewed for drinkers with conviction”
Overall, this is an excellent example of the West Coast school of brewing, all with the convenience of being found nice and close to home. I’d recommend grabbing up a few before they are all gone.
